Native Hawaiian Owl, the Pueo
In Progress...
The act of creation is a challenging and inspiring undertaking which rarely ends
up being exactly as the artist had planned.  I have never started out with
absolute clarity, only inspiration.  Each piece seems to grow and take form
naturally, evolving organically with each tile and each color added.  The end
product is always a bit of a surprise!

The artwork shown here is currently a work in progress.  Growing on the
backer board is a native Hawaiian short-eared owl, the
pueo, in flight.  Once a
common sight on these islands, it was often believed to be a manifestation of
ancient Hawaiian ancestral guardians, called
'aumakua.  The owl as an
'aumakua was specifically skilled in battle and would help descendants in need.
